The press continue to wring their collectiv(ist) hands over the popularity and ascendance of Donald Trump. Some question how they could have been so wrong in their prognostications that he’d have faded by now. Others either wonder at or openly deride the purported stupidity of people who support Trump, given that so many things he has said are obviously unfeasible or intellectually bankrupt.

What, if not intellectual bankruptcy, can we conclude from assessing the free pass or outright adulation the press gives the supporters of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders? The former is an amoral and cynical career politician whose policy positions routinely change with the political winds and whose greatest accomplishments are major failures and scandals. The latter is an unrepentant communist/socialist who is espousing a political philosophy that caused untold human suffering from the moment it was first implemented, that continues to destroy nations, and that needs to be repackaged to be palatable even to those ignorant of its horrid history.

Clinton and Sanders supporters themselves like to look down on Trump supporters, and when they’re not calling them racists, they’re using such endearing terms as “morons” and “idiots.” Clearly, they believe that only someone bereft of brain power could support Trump and get behind all the wild demagoguery. Just as clearly, they’re utterly lacking in self-awareness in that regard. Sanders’ policy ideas are those of a spoiled and whiney wimp of a child, who constantly complains that life’s not fair because he hasn’t been given other children’s toys when he demanded them. Clinton’s a career washout, lacking any guiding political compass other than “I need to support this idea today in order to get votes,” and espousing more-of-the-same big government ideas that are strangling and bankrupting the nation.

It’s easy to conclude that many Trump supporters haven’t thought through the implications of many of his policy prescriptions, or if they have, simply don’t understand what they’d actually cause if implemented. It’s also quite apparent that the same can be said of many Clinton and Sanders supporters. The latter, of course, don’t see it that way. They routinely belittle, insult and dismiss Trump supporters, as they did with Tea Party members and supporters back in 2010. The Tea Party went on to clean the Democrats’ clocks in the mid-term election, an outcome that shocked and dismayed the Dems’ supporters. After all, how could there be so many wrong-thinking people? Election betting markets currently show Clinton as a prohibitive favorite to win the White House, but those markets also had Rubio at 59% to win the GOP nod just 5 weeks ago. He’s currently at 2%. The lesson? Polls and prognostications can change rapidly. I’ve predicted before, and I’ll predict again, that Trump will beat Clinton and win the Presidency in November.

People find comfort in presuming that those who don’t think as they do are dumber or more ignorant than they are and, based on ubiquitous name-calling and condescending rhetoric, that phenomenon is particularly strong in the modern political Left. However, the Left’s policy ideas are just as bereft of logic and rationality in the face of the obvious lessons of history, so it is truly ironic to see those who cling to failed and destructive socialist policies deriding others for stupidity.
